Nevada Global War on Terrorism Veterans Conference this weekend in Las Vegas

(Carson City, Nevada) – Lieutenant Governor Brian K. Krolicki is reminding Nevada’s veterans that the 2nd Annual Nevada Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) Veterans Conference will be held this Saturday, September 12, 2009, at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.  The event is being sponsored by the Nevada Office of Veterans Services.

“In August I joined with Governor Gibbons and Adjutant General William Burks in signing a covenant that pledged ongoing support of Nevada’s service members, veterans, and their families,” said Lt. Governor Krolicki.  “The Nevada Veterans Conference is one way we can provide the veteran community with access to employers, educators, and civic organizations.”

The Nevada Veterans Conference will focus on issues and services of interest to GWOT veterans, but is open to all Nevada veterans, regardless of when they served, their families, and veteran advocates.  The first half of the day will provide information about available state and federal benefits – including homeowner assistance, education programs, and health benefits.  The second part of the day will include a discussion by Major General Scott Smith, U.S. Army (Ret.), head of UNLV’s Institute for Strategic Studies, and presentations by groups that assist veterans as they transition to civilian jobs, including Helmets to Hardhats and Troops to Teachers.

For more information or to register, Nevadans can visit the registration page on the Lt. Governor’s website, http://ltgov.nv.gov/, or call 775-684-7122 to register by telephone.
